It's always great to save money with a cheap ISP, but it's a pain
to have to sift through all the information that's out there on
discount Internet Service Providers. Good thing you've got us
working on your side! :-)
Here is my process. I tried to keep my discount
ISP reviews as unbiased as possible, even though I sometimes ran
into snags with some of the Internet Service Providers, or hit some
nasty hidden fees. Don't worry, there aren't too many of these,
and I highlight them when I found them.
I ranked and compared discount ISP services as well as premium ISP
offerings from AOL.com, AOL Broadband, Netscape, NetZero, Juno,
Earthlink, Verizon DSL, and Comcast High Speed Internet.
I looked at these ISP services because they run
the gamut, from free ISPs to high speed Internet access. Even though
cheap Internet access (or free -- yes, there are free ISPs!) offers
fewer features than, say, a gee-whiz DSL Internet access provider,
I still tried to compare them based on the same criteria -- mainly,
value.
I also spelled out ISP pricing plans, which is
critical not only in comparing the ISPs to each other, but also
in figuring out how much they will set you back annually -- since
some of the Internet Service Providers listed on this site require
you to sign a long-term contract.
I also looked at special features -- which is important
since many of the ISPs are trying to win your business with add-ons
like exclusive online content, email or Webmail, multiple email
addresses, helpful downloads, or more. Some of the Internet service
providers offer advanced technology that can boost dialup service
nearly as fast as broadband service. I try and take all that into
account.
To break all it down for you, I provide an easy to use rating system
to show you my final summary of each Internet Service Provider.
= lukewarm
= getting
cooler!
= cool!
= one
great ISP deal!

It's not rocket science, but I hope that you'll find my system helpful
and easy-to-understand which Internet Service Provider to choose.
I get asked a lot about my ISP recommendations, and I thought this
might be the best way to present all my information -- and I hope
you agree!
