ISP Review: Juno Platinum

For folks that think of Juno only as a free Internet service provider, I'm here to set you straight. Juno Platinum is the company's paid, value-priced Internet service, and it competes with AOL, EarthLink and the rest.

It does a good job at that. Juno offers thousands of national numbers and the service is generally reliable.

Juno Platinum doesn't bombard you with ads the way that you might get on the free Internet access services. It's true that you still see some advertising from Juno, but the ISP overall has less advertising, which makes for a more pleasant Internet experience.

With Juno Platinum, you're basically paying for the Internet -- and not much else. No special content, no special downloads, nada. That could actually be a plus, since you save money by purchasing only what you want.

What you do get: Cheap ISP service! Oh and you get an email address and 10 megs of email storage, along with "TrueSwitch."

TrueSwitch lets you switch from your old Internet Service Provider to your new ISP without the hassle. It handles canceling your old ISP and even sends email messages to your friends and family telling them to update their address books.

Like NetZero Platinum, Juno Platinum is definitely a value. If you're looking for a cheap ISP, you've found it. You get the Internet, without any frills and at a rock-bottom cost.

This is probably the best Internet access service for Internet "pros" out there, who know what they want but don't want to pay a lot for it, and who don't want to waste money on features they'll never use.

Personally, I recommend Juno and other cheap ISP services to people who I know want to get online without much of a hassle. It's good for people who know the Internet well, have some favorite Web sites or play online games, but who don't want to make the investment in a digital subscriber line or cable modem broadband service.
